Supremacy in the camera phone market is a coveted place, it means maximum sales for quality products with extra revenue streams from mobile content such as downloads and new applications.

Sony Ericsson have held dominance over the top spot for months with the emergence of their Cybershot range of handsets otherwise known as the K-Series, the latest of which is the Sony Ericsson K850i with a 5 megapixel camera, autofocus and integrated flash.

Nokia have never really competed in this niche market until very recently with their latest release, the Nokia N82. As a part of the N-Series phone range is offers the very best in design, technology and features available from the manufacturer but is also the most powerful and fully functional camera phone to come out of their research and development laboratories.

Nokia N82 is First Nokia Phone to Challenge Sony Ericsson Cybershot Range

The phone offers a new, fast return to ready status that is usually only found in standalone cameras, this quick action allows users to take multiple pictures in half the time of previous models. This has always been as problem with mobile phone cameras, after a user captures a photograph they have to wait anywhere up to twenty seconds before the device returns to ready for another picture.

The Nokia N82 does this in half the time which makes the phone ideal for journalists and camera enthusiasts who need to capture scenes fast and with high quality.

With this new technology the N82 can now really rival the Sony Ericsson Cybershot range, the K-Series has dominated the camera phone market purely for the name Cybershot, if a customer was looking for a camera orientated handset then the Cybershot range would be the first place to look.

The N82 also offers a high quality 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus, there is also a Xenon flash producing far more light than the standard LED flashes and 20 x digital zoom for close up photography. The camera can also record video clips at 30 frames per second producing high quality, smooth moving images to download and share plus as the N82 is a 3G enabled handset there is also a secondary camera facilitating face to face video calling with compatible handsets.

The Nokia N82 has been launched as a Carphone Warehouse exclusive handset and is only currently available on O2 as either a contract phone or as a pay as you go phone. The CPW group will be launching the handset on other networks soon and there are also some further colour schemes planned, including a titanium and black edition.

It will be some weeks before other networks and retailers are able to get their hands on this new handset, until the initial exclusive period has expired the CPW group will continue to be the only sales outlet for the device.

Will Nokia be able to tempt existing Cybershot users away from a product that they trust? Well with the rave reviews that the Nokia N82 is already recieving it seems that it may well be taking a chunk out of Sony Ericssons dominance over the camera phone market.
